To What to My Wondering Eyes Should Appear

then a fireplace and a corner garden tub! The house is coming along great and today we were pleased to see the tubs and showers in place and the fireplace installed.

master bathroom
future home of gas logs...next year it will be ready for stockings!

The siding is Hardi-Plank and it is partially up (some unpainted plank is on the front as seen in top picture of this post). It will be painted "Bracing Blue" - a gray blue that is hopefully not too blue but not too gray. We want the house to be a nice, warm, inviting blue but not dance too close to "Carolina blue" territory (Go Duke!), so we think we've found a great color. We will have cedar shake on the front dormers which is also going up now. This will look beautiful with our wood-stained front porch and gorgeous wood front door.

We are still working on details about where light switches go, the sink in the powder room, and picking an interior paint color that will match the carpet
...but all is well this Christmas on Atkins Loop.

A Brief History in Pictures

In the summer of 2006, we were blessed to purchase one of the remaining vacant lots on the historic grounds of Lake Junaluska. And now we are incredibly fortunate to build our dream home. In the spring of 2009, we contracted with Southern Home Builders of Franklin, NC, and got to work on the house's design.

Our boys in front of the lot on Atkins Loop (early August)

The regrettable inevitable: clearing the lot (late August)

After the ground was excavated, the foundation was laid (mid September)

Concrete block was built up to support the floor trusses (early October)

The framing begins (mid October)

The framing continues with main floor walls in place (late October)

The house really starts to take shape (mid November)

The front porch and back deck is added (late November)
